Personas
To identify user pain points, I observed two senior users navigating through the homepage of SeniorTix with the help of the extension, Funkify. Both users, Rose, 64, and George, 71, had differing levels of visual impairments and/or motor difficulties.
Here’s how a person with low vision would see the website.
Accessibility Issues

Final Design
After creating a series of sketches, followed by testing multiple versions of prototypes, I was able to finalize my design.
My redesign focused on the two accessibility principles outlined by W3C — Perceivable and Operable. Increasing color contrast and resizing text makes it easier for senior users with poor vision to see the content. Providing larger click-areas around buttons and other elements helps aging users with low dexterity navigate the website.
Takeaways
It’s crucial to test your products on a diverse user base and consider users with any type of impairments.
Accessibility is not equal to inclusivity: pay attention to the specific needs of your audience.
Everyone has unique needs and preferences which can be challenging to incorporate into a single design.
